How to play
- The numbers beside each row and above each column give the lengths of the consecutive filled blocks in that line, in order, with at least one empty cell between blocks.
- Drag to fill several cells at once; tap a single cell to cycle between filled, empty and unknown; switch to the mark-empty mode to x out cells you know are blank.
- Fill exactly the right cells to win — the finished grid is the picture hidden in the puzzle.
Tips
- Start with the biggest numbers: an 8 in a line of 10 always leaves cells you can fill for sure.
- Take the edges first — lines touching the border are the most constrained.
- Mark cells you know are empty as early as you can; the smaller remaining space pins down most blocks.
- If a row stalls, switch to columns. Alternating between the two is far faster than grinding one line.
Origins
Nonograms were invented in Japan in the 1980s as Oekaki Logic — drawing logic. The rules are minimal, yet the grids can render detailed pixel art. Nintendo's Mario's Picross (1995) popularised them, and they are now one of the most common logic puzzles.
FAQ
- Do I ever have to guess?
- No. Every puzzle here is verified to be solvable to a unique solution by row and column logic alone. If you get stuck, press Hint and it will point out a cell that must be determined.
- How do I mark empty cells on a phone?
- Tap the mode button in the toolbar to switch to Mark empty, then drag to mark several cells. Tapping a single cell cycles filled / empty / unknown.
- Do hints affect my score?
- Yes. No hints earns 3 stars, one or two hints earns 2, and more earns 1.
